This is a rare game. Some of the wine merchants featured no longer exist for example Peter Dominic became Threshers in the early 1990s. The game popularises wine appreciation by being both amusing and accessible to the complete beginner. It is a challenging game of power in the wine industry. In the process, you learn all about the individual characteristics of these wines, acquiring essential viticulture (grape growing) facts, an understanding of the necessary production processes along with the effects of weather, diseases, vintages and disastrous harvests. Consequently, within the space of one game, the complete beginner can expect to graduate to something of a wine buff and over a series of games, a veritable connoisseur. Interestingly the game focuses on
the European wine market and producing areas; before the real drive in
production and popularity took place with the New World wines
exemplified by the great wines of Australia, New Zealand and California. Even
other East European wines are not featured here such as those from
Edited by Rosemary George, Master of Wine, this is advertised as the first
Edition. A real collector's item.
