Race point to point around the board. Negotiate jumps and hazards and hope to avoid penalty points.
42 playing cards determine movement of the horses and are divided into top and bottom sections, each with a number (1 to 4) and colour (black, green, white, red, yellow or blue) of horseshoes.

Each horse is represented by 4, 3, 2 and 1 card sections, containing 1, 2, 3 and 4 horseshoes respectively.
To start, the dealer shuffles the pack, turns the top card over and calls the horses to move as shown. The top section is played before the bottom section and then repeat. Penalties are collected for landing on fences, post and rails, water jumps, the bank and the brook. Whips are optional but provide “ … a very much more interesting and skilful game." Each player has 4 and when/if played, double the value of the next card. Each may be used only once.

Although there are 56 playing cards in the deck, according to the rules, the 14 pink / brown / red cards should be removed. Perhaps they are spare or perhaps preparatory for a 8 horse game? With only 4 players, use the red, green, blue and yellow horses. “A good plan is to sell horses by auction before each race and thus provide prizes."

Variations;
- flat race; remove the jumps
- Grand National; count all cards double their value and race round the course twice

An extremely rare game, Regd. No. 776194.
