No knowledge of hieroglyphs is needed! Game play is designed to help you recognise the more common ones.
Move the scarab beetle round the board to collect the signs needed to spell a particular hieroglyph. At the same time, try to block your opponent(s).
The colourful game board displays the 24 signs of the basic hieroglyphic alphabet, plus a small selection of the 700 other signs used by the ancient scribes.
Royal names always appear enclosed in a cartouche (oval frame) and often in 2 parts, the prenomen and the nomen. The box cover design is a copy of a painting showing the prenomen of the Pharaoh Thuthmosis I, kept at the Ashmolean Museum Oxford UK. (Aa-kheper-ka-re, translates as Great of manifestation is the ka of Re.)
