| Based on the traditional Monopoly game but some terms and descriptions vary. Pass Go, collect £200 becomes ‘the starting square o f the game, take from the bank the sum of 100 for going through’. Stores and factories replace houses and hotels; cards position 1 and 2 replace chance and community chest cards; a penalty box replaces jail; take everythin’ replaces free parking; ferry lines replace railway stations and fines replace taxation. . The sites refer to Libyan streets and areas of Benghazi, Fezzan, Tripoli, Darnah, and Qurina. The game has not been produced to a high standard. The wording used on all the cards and the game board have been typed. Hollow plastic cones replace the traditional houses and hotels and standard pawns replace the usual playing pieces. All the contents are printed in English. The edition is possibly unique or one of a very limited production run. In this example, there is a personal greetings note dated 18th December 1979 from a couple at a UN address in Benghazi, Libya on the inside of the lid. An extremely rare game. |
