1 x playing board with colour Pollyanna label
2 x dice
4 x sets of 4 colour counters, thick card with brass rims
4 x colour wood dice shakers
1 x rules leaflet
Move your 4 pieces from the starting point by throw of the dice and round the board to your own ‘glad entrance’, then up the narrow path to Pollyanna in the centre. The first player to finish, wins.
Similar game play to Ludo but with more tracks and opportunities to block or capture.
Pieces may pass each other only on the main track. They are liable to capture if an opponent lands on the same space. The captured piece is removed from the board and can only restart by throwing a 6. The capturer is rewarded with a 10 space move for any piece.
Players may block the broadway (main track) by placing 2 or more pieces on the same space forcing opponents to use the turnouts (crescents) which are longer, single tracks and although safe from capture, pieces cannot pass each other.
An optional partnership game is described in the rules, which also advertises several editions of Pollyanna at $1.00, $1.25 and $2.00 per set and other Parker games.
"The Parker games are the most famous and largest selling games in the world, including besides Pollyanna, such favourites as the card games Rook and pit, the great table game Ping Pong, games of skill such as Halma, Chivalry and Camelot, amusements such as the famous Pastime picture puzzles for adults, and many other noted games."
A small card is included, describing "Pollyanna The glad game. The best new board game that has appeared in the last quarter century. Pollyanna possesses splendid new features. It delights young and old and appeals strongly to the home. A perfect game for 2, 3 or 4 players. Partnership games are great fun."
