The classic world conquest strategy game. The game board represents a map of the world divided into six continents, each of which is subdivided into a number of territories. The object of the game is to occupy every territory on the board by eliminating all other players.

On each turn, players should check the following, in order;
1) Confirm number of armies;
- calculate the number of your armies, = number of territories / 3
- check extra entitlement for each occupied continent
- check if you have a card combination that could be exchanged for additional armies
2) Place armies in your territory
3) Attack neighbouring territory from your occupied territory with 2 or more armies
4) Consider a free move if allowed
5) Take a card if territories are captured during this turn
6) End turn by passing dice to next player

Suggestion; remember, this is a game of defence as well as offence, and be prepared to protect the areas which you occupy. The player who builds up his armies and moves forward from one area slowly is apt to do better than the player who spreads his armies thinly, and attempts to attack from many areas.

Risk was first produced in France in 1957 as La Conqueste du Monde.  In 1959, it was renamed Risk: The continental game, by Parker Brothers for release in the US. Various names have been used since eg. Risk: The game of global domination (US), Risk: The world strategy game (UK), Risk: The world conquest game (UK).

Printed on the base of the box; "Risk is Waddington's game of strategy that embraces continents, spans oceans and involves a talent for planning and tactics as well as skill and luck. An unusual and dynamic game, the sweeping dramatic moves of many pieces make the play vital and thrilling. Risk is undoubtedly a great game!"

In later editions, mission cards are included. The objective being to successfully complete a secret mission, rather than occupy the whole world.
